What Is Canthoplasty?
SH Plastic Surgery
Canthoplasty opens the inner, upper, outer or lower corner of the eye to extend its length and height,
creating larger, more open eyes.
It is a good option for those who did not see much effect from double eyelid surgery alone.
The operating time is short and recovery is fast, while the eye shape is effectively improved.
We strive to deliver satisfaction with the method suited to each person's eye shape and goals.
The key to canthoplasty is not making the eyes bigger,Dr. Seonghun Kim, SH Chief Director
but opening a closed structure to create balance.
Before & After
Not eyes made bigger,
but a structure that opens up
Before & After
Even as time passes,
eye proportions that stay natural
What Makes SH Plastic Surgery's Canthoplasty Special
SH does not follow trends.
We design the timing and structure that suit your face now.
-
01Harmonious eye design
We consider each person's eye shape and proportions to create natural, balanced eyes.
-
02A dramatic change in image
Expanding narrow eye space leads to a defined, open look.
-
03Lasting results without worry about reattachment
Delicate surgical techniques give stable results without re-adhesion.
-
04Minimal scarring
A minimal incision supports natural recovery without worry about visible scars.
-
05Reversal canthoplasty available
Canthoplasty reversal surgery is also available if needed, allowing flexible design changes.
SH's Approach to Facial Structure

structural analysis
SH's canthoplasty
To draw a beautiful face, Leonardo da Vinci
did not simply trace its outline.
He divided the face by reference points and analyzed the role of each position.
for natural expansion.
Which canthoplasty is right for me?
Medial, upper, lateral and lower canthoplasty
-
1Medial canthoplasty
- You have epicanthal folds
- Your eyes are short horizontally
- The space between your eyes is wide
-
2Upper canthoplasty
- The inner corners of your eyes are heavily covered
- You want softer-looking eyes
- Your double eyelid line is hidden
-
3Lateral canthoplasty
- The outer corners of your eyes look closed
- You want to extend the horizontal length
- You want to lower the outer corners
-
4Lower canthoplasty
- You want to lower the outer corners
- Your eyes still look closed after medial and lateral canthoplasty
- The lower part of your pupil is covered
Medial Canthoplasty Procedure
Medial canthoplasty lengthens the eyes horizontally and improves epicanthal folds for open, natural eyes.
It works especially well with double eyelid surgery, balancing the distance between the eyes for harmonious overall facial proportions.
-
Step 011. Design
The degree of the epicanthal fold is measured and planned.
-
Step 022. Epicanthal fold removal
The fold is delicately incised and removed in harmony with the eye shape.
-
Step 033. Skin repositioning
The incised skin is naturally repositioned to create the desired eye shape.
-
Step 044. Completion
Delicate sutures complete defined, open eyes.
Upper Canthoplasty Procedure
Upper canthoplasty raises the starting point of the eye for natural, bright eyes.
It enlarges the eyes while keeping the distance between them, and reveals the front of the double eyelid line for a defined yet soft look.
-
Step 011. Design
The canthoplasty line is planned according to the eyelid condition.
-
Step 022. Conjunctiva removal
After a minimal incision, the conjunctiva is delicately removed.
-
Step 033. Closure
The eyelid and fascia are fixed diagonally for a natural eye shape.
-
Step 044. Completion
Bright, open eyes are complete.
Lateral Canthoplasty Procedure
Lateral canthoplasty opens the outer corner of the eye to lengthen it horizontally, creating open, soft eyes.
Recommended for those who want to soften a sharp look.
-
Step 011. Design
The extent of the canthoplasty is planned to suit the features of the eyes.
-
Step 022. Conjunctival incision
An incision is made along the conjunctival line inside the outer corner, and the conjunctiva is removed.
-
Step 033. Tissue connection
The outer corner is opened, and the eyelid and fascia are connected and sutured.
-
Step 044. Completion
Natural, longer eyes are complete.
Lower Canthoplasty Procedure
Lower canthoplasty adjusts the height and direction of the outer lower eyelid to enlarge the eyes and soften the look.
The angle can be adjusted delicately, and combining it with lateral canthoplasty can create a synergistic effect.
-
Step 011. Design
The angle and proportions of the outer corner are analyzed and planned.
-
Step 022. Conjunctiva removal
The conjunctiva is delicately removed, considering the degree and the line.
-
Step 033. Skin repositioning
The incised skin is repositioned to suit the desired eye shape.
-
Step 044. Completion
Natural sutures complete defined, soft eyes.
SH Plastic Surgery's Surgical Principles
Plastic surgery is not simply a technique for changing appearance;
it is medicine that understands the structure and balance of the face.
For natural and stable results, SH Plastic Surgery performs surgery
based on the following principles.
We analyze structure first

The eyes, nose and face are not independent structures; they influence each other to form your impression.
SH Plastic Surgery does not look only at the shape of the eyes or nose; we analyze
- Eyeball position
- Brow bone structure
- Facial skeleton
- Tissue balance
to understand the facial structure first.
We value balance over excessive change

The goal of plastic surgery is not to change the face excessively
but to improve its overall balance.
SH Plastic Surgery considers facial proportions and harmony
to pursue natural and stable change.
Surgery begins with design

Good results are not suddenly created in the operating room.
We create a design suited to your facial structure through accurate analysis, and the surgery is performed based on that design.
SH Plastic Surgery performs design-based surgery grounded in structural analysis.
We consider long-term stability

Results should look natural not only right after surgery but also as time passes.
SH Plastic Surgery chooses the surgical method
with tissue stability and long-term change in mind.
Patient safety comes first

The most important thing in plastic surgery is patient safety.
- A dedicated, accountable medical team
- Surgeon name disclosure in the operating room
- Systematic management of the surgical environment
These measures keep the surgical environment safe.
