Types of Nasal Implant Removal

Various implant problems cannot all be solved in one way.
SH applies different removal and recovery strategies according to implant type · placement · time since surgery · pattern of complications.

  1. Case 01

    L-shaped or I-shaped silicone extending into the tip

    When silicone extends into the tip,
    constant pressure can thin and discolor the tip skin, and in severe cases the silicone can show through or protrude.

    Early signs include redness or a whitish show-through at the tip,
    and as it progresses the silicone can become exposed toward the nostril opening.
    In such cases, SH prevents further damage through early removal and tip reconstruction.

  2. Case 02

    Silicone not adhering to the bone and floating

    If the implant does not adhere stably to the bone,
    fluid or inflammation can recur in the space between the implant and the bone.

    This can lead to an unstable nose line, chronic swelling, pain and recurrent inflammation,
    and removal requires precise separation that considers the adhesion.

  3. Case 03

    Contracted or short nose caused by rejection of silicone or Gore-Tex

    If chronic inflammation or rejection of the implant continues, the nose can gradually shorten and turn up, deforming into a contracted nose.

    In this case, simple removal alone makes recovery difficult, and structural reconstruction with autologous tissue is essential.

  4. Case 04

    Delayed inflammation years after Gore-Tex surgery

    Gore-Tex can cause delayed infection even years after surgery.

    If repeated swelling, pus, pain or changes in nose shape appear,
    implant removal must be considered, and depending on the condition, autologous cartilage revision is performed at the same time.
