Dr. Kim Sung-hoon of SH Plastic Surgery Successfully Concludes Renuvion Small-Group Seminar: "The Key to Middle-Aged Facelifts and Youthful Plastic Surgery Lies in Designing the Outcome, Not the Equipment"

On January 11, Dr. Kim Sung-hoon, Director of SH Plastic Surgery, successfully hosted a small-group seminar on the theme of Renuvion at the clinic. This seminar was organized as a platform to share clinical experience regarding overall anti-aging surgeries focused on middle-aged patients, including facelifts, forehead lifts, and correction of sagging eyes.
Dr. Kim Sung-hoon has long focused his practice on facelifts and anti-aging surgeries for middle-aged patients, researching treatment strategies tailored to overall facial aging patterns by combining incisional surgeries and non-incisional procedures. Rather than being limited to introducing a specific device, this seminar likewise focused on the structural understanding of middle-aged facial aging and its actual clinical application.
The event consisted of an explanation of Renuvion’s energy delivery principles and procedural protocols, along with a live surgery performed directly by Dr. Kim Sung-hoon targeting the face and neck areas. Held on a small scale, this seminar was uniquely designed to allow for an in-depth sharing of the entire procedural process and decision-making criteria.
The lecture focused on the characteristics of middle-aged facial aging and the corresponding treatment approaches. Dr. Kim explained that it is difficult to overcome limitations with a single procedure in middle-aged patients who present a complex combination of sagging skin, soft tissue changes, and loss of elasticity, and he presented his clinical perspective on how to combine facelift surgery with energy-based procedures.
Regarding Renuvion, an explanation followed concerning the characteristics of combining helium plasma and RF energy, as well as the role that the collagen contraction-inducing process can play in designing actual anti-aging surgeries. Dr. Kim emphasized, "Renuvion can be an option before or after a facelift or forehead lift, or when a non-incisional approach is needed," adding that setting the timing and purpose of application is more important than the device itself.
In the clinical application section, the effects of power and gas flow settings, procedural speed, and pass management on outcomes were covered in detail. In particular, since tissue response and recovery speed must both be considered in middle-aged patients, practical experiences were shared regarding how to regulate energy delivery.
The live procedure was conducted mainly on the face and neck areas, structured in a way that induces tightening without separate liposuction. The case of the day was a middle-aged male with relatively prominent wrinkles due to frequent outdoor activities, and Dr. Kim explained the procedural flow focusing on areas critically considered in middle-aged facelifts, such as the forehead, midface, double chin, and neck.
During the procedure, Dr. Kim said, "What is important in anti-aging surgery for middle-aged patients is not short-term changes, but natural changes that the patient can genuinely feel in daily life," adding, "While long-term observation is required regarding the duration of maintenance, we are contemplating a direction distinct from approaches that merely produce temporary effects."
Unlike large-scale academic events, this seminar focused on details that can be applied immediately in actual surgical and clinical settings. It garnered significant interest from attendees as factors repeatedly contemplated in clinical practice—such as procedural settings, speed control, pass management, and aftercare—were shared in detail.
Dr. Kim stated, "Various energy-based devices, including Renuvion, are ultimately just tools to produce results," adding, "In overall anti-aging surgeries such as facelifts, forehead lifts, and correction of sagging eyes for middle-aged patients, I will continue research to create tangible changes while considering not only procedural results but also the burdens the patient must bear."
